There is something quietly magical about a winter wedding. The crisp air. The soft, diffused light. The way the season strips everything back to what matters most — two people, choosing each other, surrounded by the people they love.

Brides share a kiss with Venue 54 black door surrounding them while they exit their ceremony. Their winter wedding was outdoors at the pergola where seating is provided for guests. Both brides are wearing white and sharing a kiss just before they leave their ceremony.

On January 3rd, Kaitlin and Elizabeth did exactly that. Their winter wedding on Maryland's Eastern Shore was everything a January celebration should be: intimate, elegant, and full of genuine emotion. And as their Delaware-based wedding photographer, I had the absolute privilege of photographing every moment of it.

Venue 54 brides are sharing their first dance where you see the white draping at the top of the ceiling
 with a large chandelier.

They are standing with long golden grasses on their left and and an old greenhouse building made with old windows to their right. The brides are holding each others waists and the train of the bride on the right is flowing behind her.

Getting Ready at Venue 54

One of the things that makes Venue 54 such a standout choice for Eastern Shore brides is its flexibility. The venue offers dedicated getting-ready spaces that kept the morning feeling calm, organized, and beautiful — which, if you've ever photographed a wedding, you know is not always a given.

Getting-ready photos are some of my favorites to make. There's a tenderness to those quiet morning moments — the details of a dress hanging in the window, hands being held before the ceremony, a first look between a bride and her closest people — that sets the emotional tone for the entire day. Kaitlin and Elizabeth's morning had all of it.

An Outdoor Winter Ceremony on the Eastern Shore

I'll be honest: when couples tell me they want an outdoor winter ceremony, I get excited. The light at that time of year is a photographer's dream — soft, directional, and impossibly flattering. And with the Eastern Shore landscape as a backdrop, even a January day has a natural beauty that is hard to manufacture in any other season.

Choose a venue with an indoor backup. This is non-negotiable for winter weddings in Delaware and Maryland. Venue 54's indoor-outdoor flexibility is exactly the kind of option you want in your back pocket — even if you never need it.
